  • A curatorial exploration of the camasa cu altita as living mythology, ritual garment, and symbolic archive.

  • This exhibition unfolds as a journey into the history of the camasa cu altita — the traditional Romanian blouse distinguished by its embroidered shoulder yoke and generically known as the ie — the central axis of Romanian traditional costume, approached here as the scenography of a living mythology.

  • In May, when nature reaches its liminal threshold, the iele awaken: ambivalent female divinities, at once seductive and vengeful. These “Queens of the Air” find their counterparts in the Janare of Benevento, the Fate of Tuscany, or the Anguane of the Alps, revealing a shared archaic imaginary embedded within the European cultural space.

  • The textile works presented here are not mere artifacts, but “garment-paintings”: layers of protection, visual codes, and surfaces of symbolic inscription.

  • In a world where matter, body, and myth were inseparable, the peasant blouse — the IA — functioned as a “chain of memory,” a textile body carrying an ancient grammar of signs that connects us to the invisible face of the world.

  • We invite you to decipher this language and rediscover the power to re-enchant the world through a return to origins.

  • Since 2022, The Art of the Camasa cu Altita — an Element of Cultural Identity in Romania and the Republic of Moldova has been officially inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This recognition confirms the universal value of the traditional blouse (IA) as the repository of a millenary symbolic language and of a craftsmanship transmitted across generations.

  • Questa mostra si configura come un viaggio nella storia della camasa cu altita — la tradizionale blusa rumena caratterizzata dal ricamo sulla spalla, comunemente nota come ie — asse portante del costume tradizionale romeno, qui interpretata come scenografia di una mitologia vivente.Nel mese di maggio, quando la natura raggiunge la propria soglia liminale, si risvegliano le iele: divinità femminili ambivalenti, al tempo stesso seducenti e vendicatrici. Queste “Regine dell’Aria” trovano le loro corrispondenze nelle Janare di Benevento, nelle Fate della Toscana o nelle Anguane alpine, rivelando un immaginario arcaico condiviso nello spazio culturale europeo.Le opere tessili qui presentate non sono semplici manufatti, ma “abiti-dipinto”: strati di protezione, codici visivi e superfici di iscrizione simbolica.In un mondo in cui materia, corpo e mito erano inseparabili, la camicia contadina — la IA — funzionava come una “catena della memoria”, un corpo tessile portatore di un’antica grammatica di segni che ci connette al volto invisibile del mondo. Vi invitiamo a decifrare questo linguaggio e a riscoprire il potere di re-incantare il mondo attraverso un ritorno alle origini. Dal 2022, “L’arte della Camasa cu Altita — elemento di identità culturale in Romania e nella Repubblica di Moldova” è ufficialmente iscritta nella Lista rappresentativa del Patrimonio Culturale Immateriale dell’Umanità UNESCO. Questo riconoscimento conferma il valore universale della blusa tradizionale (IA) quale depositaria di un linguaggio simbolico millenario e di una maestria tramandata di generazione in generazione.
