IMPRINT ARCHITECTURE IN SPAIN
Thematic series – 1 st edition workshop
Hiding is a significant moment of the stories, the determining moment of the material position, of disappearing implying the transition, the de-materialization. By corporeal analogy, architecture also takes on fantastic forms with the same fascination of introverted, hidden, protected spaces, the man actually entering the body of architecture, whether it is from the triptych of Hieronymus Bosch, The garden of Earthly delights, or the shelter of Santiago Calatrava in City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia. Camouflage – the ultimate mechanism by which contemporary architecture tends to “integrate”, through the borrowing of language, through mimesis – is a phenomenon with famous antecedents in Renaissance, Baroque architecture, culminating in the Art Deco period. The central space of Spain is the in situ scene in which the study of the imprint of the architectural language is proposed, starting from examples of traditional architecture and reaching the contemporary period. The discourse is a complementary one that relates art to traditional and contemporary architectural examples, discussing the formal or sculptural vocabulary of architecture – the phenomenon of camouflage having as reference the theoretical work of Neil Leach. This theoretical manifesto, which disputes the architectural vocabulary as an authentic one, launches the intrigue of the dialogue, introducing it on the territory of the reactive behavior to the environment. A particular architectural path, illustrating specific hypostases and determinations of the architectural object along the route: VALENCIA, CUENCA, MADRID, SEGOVIA, TOLEDO, bringing together study examples brought into discussion for the analysis of imprint, mimesis, respectively body camouflage through chromatics, texture , ornament and shape.
